After a year of fundraising, United Welsh is pleased to announce it has raised \u00a313,329 for Cancer Research Wales.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Staff took part in a range of activities to raise money after United Welsh voted to make Cancer Research Wales their corporate charity.<\/p>\n

Cancer Research Wales was a cause that was close to the hearts and minds of many staff after Office Manager Jane Love\u2019s husband Stuart was diagnosed with Myeloid Leukaemia in August 2015.<\/p>\n

Jane said: \u201cIn true Stuart fashion, he remained strong and courageous over his\u00a0seven months of treatment, but unfortunately in March 2016, a post-transplant virus took hold and in just nine days proved\u00a0too much for his immune system.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last September, Jane completed a Himalayan trek at the heart of the world’s highest mountain range in Dharamsala, home to the\u00a0Dalai Lama.<\/p>\n

The trek raised over \u00a33,000 for the charity alone.<\/p>\n

Other fundraising efforts by United Welsh staff included a team taking part in the Cardiff-based 10K obstacle course \u2018Invncbl\u2019 event and a three-day 185 mile bike ride from north to south Wales.<\/p>\n

Jane added: \u201cI\u2019m so thankful for the support from colleagues and friends to raise this huge amount of money for the charity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cancer Research Wales focuses on prevention, early diagnosis and better treatment of cancer to benefit patients in Wales and beyond.<\/p>\n

Katie Killoran, Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research Wales said: \u201cThe support of organisations like United Welsh enables us to fund some of the most innovative developments in cancer treatment, early diagnosis and cure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled by the efforts of United Welsh and the money raised will go a long way in helping us to support more families.<\/p>\n

United Welsh has nominated Vision 21 as their 2018 Charity of the Year.<\/p>\n

Established in 1986, the charity provides quality environments for people with learning needs to take up work-based training opportunities.<\/p>\n

Vision 21 staff deliver catering services at two United Welsh Extra Care schemes, Llys Nant Y Mynydd and Plas Hyfryd, which provide over 90 high quality apartments and communal facilities to older people in Nantyglo and Caerphilly.<\/p>\n

Lynda Sagona, Group Chief Executive of United Welsh said: \u201cOur mission at United Welsh is not only to build homes and create communities, but to also make a real difference to people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n
