A partnership in the Caerphilly county borough has demonstrated its commitment to work together to meet local housing needs.

Caerphilly County Borough Council, United Welsh, Linc Cymru, Pobl Group and Wales & West Housing have signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ which sets out their shared commitment to work collaboratively to find local housing solutions; with a particular focus on the delivery of new affordable housing.

All parties officially signed the agreement during a remote event held on Monday 5th October. The official signing was witnessed by Julie James MS, Minister for Housing and Local Government.

The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Julie James said: “Recent months have reminded us all of the fundamental importance of good-quality affordable housing and we remain committed to providing 20,000 affordable homes by the end of the Senedd term.

It is fantastic to see the housing sector working collaboratively to ensure local communities will be able to access much needed affordable housing across Caerphilly county borough.”

The Memorandum of Understanding sets out formal aims and objectives for the partnership to work together to achieve; by sharing skills, knowledge and resources to deliver affordable homes and resilient, sustainable communities.

Cllr Philippa Marsden, the Council’s Leader, added “We have a strong history of collaborative working in the Caerphilly county borough and have already delivered many successful projects together with our housing association partners.

By formally adopting the Memorandum of Understanding we are going one step further in demonstrating our commitment to work together for the benefit of our residents and local communities.”

United Welsh’s Chief Executive Lynda Sagona commented, on behalf of housing association partners, ““Through this positive collaboration, we are committed to jointly maximising our delivery of much needed, energy efficient homes for the people of Caerphilly and in doing so, creating many exciting job and training opportunities.”
