Tenant news
Working in partnership with South Wales Police and Vale of Glamorgan Council, United Welsh took action against Michael Cross of Riverside Place, Barry, due to his frequent anti-social behaviour while in the Caerleon Road area of Dinas Powys causing distress to the community.
Despite repeated warnings about his threatening behaviour and anti-social use of quad bikes and motorbikes, Mr Cross continued to behave anti-socially and a year-long injunction was granted by Cardiff County Court on 22nd October 2020.
The injunction bans Mr Cross from entering or attempting to enter the following areas in Dinas Powys: Caerphilly Close, Caerwent Close, Rhuddlan Way, Caerleon Road and Criccieth Court and Caerwent Gardens.
It also forbids him from approaching, threatening, intimidating or physically harming anyone who resides in the Exclusion Zone named above; including families, friends or visitors, whether they are in the area or not.
Sian Weeks, Neighbourhood Safety Manager for United Welsh said:
“We are very grateful to everyone in the community and our partners at South Wales Police and Vale of Glamorgan Council for helping to gather evidence which led to this result.
“People have the right to live peacefully in their own homes. The Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 is there to protect ordinary people and we hope this injunction will bring some relief to all those negatively impacted by Mr Cross’s anti-social behaviour.
“United Welsh will provide support to any of our tenants or residents experiencing anti-social behaviour and we will continue to work with our partners to tackle it in all of its guises.”
Mr Cross failed to attend a follow-up hearing to discuss the Anti-social Behaviour Injunction on 28th October 2020. A breach could result in Mr Cross being fined or sentenced to prison.
Cllr Eddie Williams, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Legal, Regulatory and Planning Services, said:
“I hope the granting of this injunction sends out a clear message that the Vale of Glamorgan Council and its partners will not tolerate anti-social behaviour.
“Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and we will continue to take action to tackle it. I’d like to thank United Welsh, South Wales Police and the local community for their help in securing this outcome.”
In September, a CCTV camera was also installed on Caerleon Road to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
